What a Sincere Apology Sounds Like

Don’t care what politicians do in their personal life.  In my perfect world, none of a politician’s or celebrity’s personal life would ever be reported.  But we do not live in that world.  Cenk Uygur appropriately points out that Governor Sanford left out a couple of things in his apology.

I [Cenk Uygur] can begin to forgive Sanford if he gives this apology:

    [...]

    Democrats Eat Their Own

    Harry Reid

As expected, the US Senate stopped Roland Burris from lawfully taking his Senate seat this morning.  The Democrats cannot stand up to Bush or Cheney.  They cannot stand up to the Republican MINORITY. They cannot stand up to Joe “Kneepads” Lieberman. But they sure as heck can stand up to one of their own.  I would not even believe this was [...]

    Sociometrics

lthough I am a native Washingtonian, Seattle born, I knew nothing about Vancouver until I came here in 1992. It did not take long for me to appreciate why some people–including native Vancouverites–refer to Vancouver as “Couve Holler” or “Vantucky”. In the apparent establishment, such as it is, the same names, associations, backgrounds and networks kept coming up over and over. And in [...]

it’s not nice to speak ill of the dead

So I’ll let others do it for me. First, Henry Hyde himself, to Salon in 1998:

The statute of limitations has long since passed on my youthful indiscretions. Suffice it to say Cherie Snodgrass and I were good friends a long, long time ago. After Mr. Snodgrass confronted my wife, the friendship ended…

According to Cherie Snodgrass (now Hancock), Hyde:

    called her “my [...]

my first experience with seething, white-hot, nauseating political anger

I was politically active long before I went to law school, an in my pre-law incarnation as a reporter I’d had plenty of exposure to the peculiar narcissism and hypocrisy of politicians.

But the Anita Hill hearings, during my first year at U of O Law, was the first time I wanted to reach through the teevee and throttle someone. Two someones, actually: Orrin [...]

    Forgotten principles

Here is where this came from. Be assured it is not the bs you get from fox news, that is if there is anyone out there reading this who is still being brainwashed by them.

    Forgotten principles

    by Leon Fisher, Unknown News
    February 7, 2007

I would like to express my disappointment with those of my generation who have sold out to the same corrupt institutions they had actively opposed many years before.

While some of you, to your ever-lasting credit, have kept the faith, most of you have not. In fact, you have allowed yourselves to become corrupted by the same debilitating greed and materialism which affected your parents, blinding them to the lies and manipulations of the evil, power-hungry men of the time — Lyndon Johnson, Robert McNamara, and Richard Nixon.

You have forgotten the lessons learned when you marched against the immoral and illegal war being waged in Southeast Asia. You say you have grown up and your values have changed. You no longer have the time to be bothered with politics, but somehow you find the time to vote for and give money to that other tyrant from Texas, G.W. Bush.

You invest in Wall Street without any thought that a good part of the profit you are making is drenched in the blood of the troops you feign to support, and the innocent civilians caught in the crossfire. You ignore the images of the horrors of war brought into your living rooms on the evening news, as you impatiently wait for the business and sports reports. You find yourselves agreeing with the hate-filled rhetoric of right-wing radio talk show hosts, who hate all those who disagree with them. You hold those who march for peace and justice in contempt, disillusioned fools you say, not living in the real world. Disloyal Americans, you are thinking, who hate America and Bush.

And to think that a great many of you marched for peace forty years ago. You have, like your youth, lost your idealism long ago. You have lost your souls.

You are no longer the blessed peacemakers, but have instead become the crucifiers. You have chosen to ignore the truth and drink from the cup of hypocrisy and greed.

You who support the abomination taking place in the Middle East, and who support the usurper who has defiled the temple of our Government, will reap what you have sowed. The murderous and corrupt policies of the Bush cabal will backfire, your stocks will plummet, and your own children will be sent into the caldron of war. You will lose much of what you hold dear, and quite rightly so, and you will be haunted for the rest of your days.

Maybe you can practice singing the words to an old song you probably don’t remember any more…

    Aw, geez

    Hypocrisy anyone?

As Governor Mitt Romney explores a presidential bid, he has grown outspoken in his criticism of illegal immigration. But, for a decade, the governor has used a landscaping company that relies heavily on workers like these, illegal Guatemalan immigrants, to maintain the grounds surrounding his pink Colonial house on Marsh Street in Belmont.

The Globe recently interviewed four current and former employees of Community Lawn Service with a Heart, the tiny Chelsea-based company that provides upkeep of Romney’s property. All but one said they were in the United States illegally.

The employees told the Globe that company owner Ricardo Saenz never asked them to provide documents showing their immigration status and knew they were illegal immigrants.

“He never asked for papers,” said Rosales, who said he had paid smugglers about $5,000 to take him across the US-Mexican border and settled in Chelsea.

The workers said they were paid in cash at $9 to $10 an hour and sometimes worked 11-hour days.

Romney never inquired about their status, they said.

In addition to maintaining the governor’s property, they also tended to the lawn at the house owned by Romney’s son, Taggart, less than a mile away on the same winding street.

Asked by a reporter yesterday about his use of Community Lawn Service with a Heart, Romney, who was hosting the Republican Governors Association conference in Miami, said, “Aw, geez,” and walked away.
