    Random Recitals

If you want total security, go to prison. There you're fed, clothed, given medical care and so on. The only thing lacking... is freedom.

Go Ahead And Scream At Me

This graphic to the right doesn’t make one proud to be a Washingtonian.  And a big part of the reason is Washington, like Florida, has no state income tax.  So the sales taxes, the property taxes and all the other “taxes” just keep climbing on the poor while the rich get richer.

Oregon needs a sales tax and they need to use some [...]

    shameless self-promotion

I’ve got a new gadget on the right side of my blog, for my newly set-up shop, equality über alles. It’s mostly handmade jewelry with many pieces using recycled materials: vintage buttons, sterling flatware, sea glass and shell finds from my trips home to Florida, and whatever else might look interesting on any given day.

How often I add new things to the site [...]

    your t.s.a. at work

And as long as we’re talking transportation…

My husband’s name is very common; our son’s first name and my own are slightly unusual, but we all share the same common last name.

    When checking our [...]

    paging julie brown

I spent the first 20 years of my life in FL, and being blonde and fair-skinned, it shows. I am freckled from head to toe (at least those parts that have ever seen the sun), and have what is charmingly called “trucker’s arm” — my left arm, in particular, is criss-crossed with little superficial hard spots called actinic keratosis.

    So, [...]

    alan grayson is the man

Almost makes me proud to be from Florida.

    ratcheting up the pressure

I assume these recent speeches by Obama are intended to publicly call out Blue Dogs and Senate Republicans to get along and go along once the Economic Plan is presented. From today’s speech at George Mason University:

This crisis did not happen solely by some accident of history or normal turn of the business cycle, and we won’t get out of it by [...]

Rally for Instant Runoff Voting in Washington State

Remember the primary debacle this past spring? Remember all the times that qualified, worthy candidates were shut out of an election because they stood outside the major political parties? Remember your frustration after Florida in 2000 or Ohio in 2004?

With our current electoral system, voters often must choose [...]
