Why Isn’t Simon Johnson the Treasury Secretary?

This is the most succinct explanation I have come across of where we are at and of what to do with regard to the financial crisis affecting our country.  I hope Obama and Congress are listening.  From Bill Moyers Journal (you can watch the video here):

    February 13, 2009

BILL MOYERS: Welcome to the Journal.

The battle is joined as they say — and here’s the [...]

    ratcheting up the pressure

I assume these recent speeches by Obama are intended to publicly call out Blue Dogs and Senate Republicans to get along and go along once the Economic Plan is presented. From today’s speech at George Mason University:

This crisis did not happen solely by some accident of history or normal turn of the business cycle, and we won’t get out of it by simply waiting [...]

    Thank You Ingela Levett

On November 13, 2008, the world lost a tremendous force of good in the dog world.

Ingela Levett, 63, was the Founder and President of Rawhide Rescue. A non-profit rescue group of foster homes that worked tirelessly to find “forever homes” for dogs. She helped save over 2000 dogs and brought happiness to so many people.

    no longer the hero

if he ever was, McCain has become Richard III, Iago and Macbeth rolled into one.

He is the scheming, lame and eternally bitter Richard of Gloucester, needing to kill all goodness around him so as to never face that contrast to his black soul, and needing war, too, as peace gives him nowhere to put his rage:

But I, that am not shaped for sportive tricks,
    Nor made [...]

What’s the Difference between a Pit Bull and a Palin?

A pit bull is unfairly maligned and a palin maligns unfairly.

Jon Stewart has a take in the video below on the difference between a Soccer Mom and a “Pit bull”. “One is unfairly maligned in spite of evidence that it is no worse than any other dog, and one is an artificial demographic that is no better or worse than any other mom.”

    No Pets Left Behind

    Nomad caravan $5000

Sounds like a few things were learned since Katrina…

No pets left behind in New Orleans evacuation

Pet owners stood in line to register their furry friends. Then they were given a machine readable band to tag on to their pet, in case they became separated.

Among the horrors of Katrina three years ago were dead dogs bobbing in the drowned streets of the [...]

coming soon to a democracy near you

    Minneapolis in September, perhaps?

SEOUL, South Korea – Police fired water cannons at thousands of protesters Tuesday as President Bush got a volatile reception in South Korea at the start of his three-nation Asian trip.

Some 18,300 police were on high alert with riot gear and bomb-sniffing dogs to maintain order during Bush’s brief visit, the National Police Agency said.

As evening approached, an estimated 20,000 anti-Bush protesters [...]

Use a leash to protect your dog or else

There is a letter to the editor in the Columbian this morning that deserves some clarification and further discussion. The letter is entitled, “Obey law and use a leash” and concerns leashing your dog:

While walking along the busy river walk by Interstate 5 Bridge, I saw three dogs being walked by their owners, and none were on leashes. All were [...]
