Vancouver for Peace action upon the 3000th death of a U.S. service person in Iraq

Update: This event is on Jan 2, 2007.

Vigil to be Held the Day After the Announcement of the 3000th U.S. Soldier to Die in Iraq

Vancouver event is part of a nationwide campaign with events in more than 100 cities proclaiming: not one more death, not one more dollar.

Vancouver, WA Tuesday, December 26, 2006 — On the afternoon of the first business day after the announcement of the 3000th U.S. soldier to die in the Iraq war, Clark County citizens will gather to commemorate and call attention to the human cost of U.S. policy in Iraq. Participants will line Mill Plain with candles and banners. Prior to the vigil citizens will visit the offices of Senators Murray and Cantwell and Representative Baird. They will present their concerns about the human cost of the war and our policy in Iraq. Vancouver for Peace, a local grassroots group, is organizing these actions.

The local vigil and those being planned across the nation are an expression of a deep grief over the unconscionable loss of life among our own troops and the Iraqi people. “Congress voted for the Iraq war based on lies. Three and a half years of war in Iraq has made the U.S. less secure and is passing on a crushing load of debt to our children. The war has killed and injured hundreds of thousands of Iraqis. It has injured 22,000 and killed 3,000 U.S. servicepeople,” said Marion Ward, Vancouver resident and Vancouver for Peace activist. “The majority of our troops, the majority of Iraqis, and the majority of Americans want us out. Not one more death, not one more dollar wasted on this war,” said Vancouver resident and Vancouver for Peace activist, Genny Kortes.
