I started Americans for Campaign Reform because I believe our country has a flawed system for selecting our leaders.
As a candidate for US Senate, I saw firsthand that the pool from which we select our leaders is largely limited to those who have access to big money or those who have a famous name. Clearly some in that pool have been, and will be, excellent leaders. However, the likelihood of electing our very best leaders will be much higher if funding a campaign is not the single most important criterion for running for office.
I believe that voluntary public funding is the only solution. Our leaders will be elected based on their ability and character and, when elected, will only be accountable to the voters. What’s more, by eliminating the burden of fundraising, our leaders will be able to devote all of their time to the challenge of governing.
What’s really encouraging is that public funding is affordable: about $1.8 billion per year or Just $6 per person.
Because of my deep concern about this issue, I am working fulltime for the Just $6 movement with no financial compensation. Please join us and talk about public funding with your friends and neighbors.
