Below is the fix for the Clark County Amphitheater according to a letter to the editor in The Columbian today. To this I would add construct the light rail to run all the way to the LaCenter casino with stops at Salmon Creek and 179th Streets. Get the casino developers on board with helping out on the financing. Think big people of Clark County. In order to have a vibrant community, you have to manage growth, not run away from it.
Amphitheater fix is simple
The timing is perfect. Even with all the good intentions, the Amphitheater at Clark County is not close to being a profitable venue. Here is how we can fix that.
1. Regain complete control of the location with certain conditions.
2. Approach the Cowlitz and their backers, the Mohegans, negotiate an agreement with them to operate the amphitheater in conjunction with the casino. They would do the improvements, provide talent picked from the top end of the talent pool, and you will see a marked difference.
3. They would provide transportation from the parking areas of the casino, by shuttle, to and from the amphitheater.
4. The casino is coming to Clark County. Relax, enjoy. There will be hundreds of new jobs and millions of new dollars circulating. Greet them with a smile and a handshake. Negotiate to the benefit of both. Watch the taxes and revenue roll in, not the money pour out.
