good for us

James Yee

Washington held its Legislative District caucuses on Saturday, where delegates to the national convention were chosen.*

One of those chosen to be an Obama delegate to the national convention is a former army chaplain who was royally fucked by BushCo:

Former Capt. James J. Yee, a Muslim, was among the delegates pledged to Sen. Barack Obama who were elected by precinct representatives Saturday. He’s representing the state’s 9th Congressional District at the party’s convention in Denver in August.

The West Point graduate was accused in 2003 of being part of a spy ring at the U.S. prison for suspected terrorists in Guantanamo Bay.

After spending 76 days in solitary confinement, he was exonerated, resigned from the Army and received an honorable discharge.

The experience left him feeling like “living proof that civil liberties have been eroded since 9/11,” Yee told The Olympian newspaper on Monday.

He now lives with his wife and daughter in Olympia.

We’re lucky to have him.

*I was a delegate to the county convention last month, and decided not to try for a delegate position at the district convention or Denver because I knew that our district Dem chair, a buffoon whom I cannot stand but will not name, would be there: he is persistent irritation personified.

  1. Jim Miller’s view is that the AP is imprecise, and the charges against yee were dropped mostly because the .gov didn’t want to put their evidence in public record.

I won’t say Yee is a scoundrel, but I also wouldn’t necessarily want him representing me in Denver. I’d rather choose a single mother, disabled veteran, or police officer without the unique skeletons Yee brings. In Denver, of course, he’ll be a tally not a person. This is probably many pixels about nothing.
