I missed out on the “Obama is an evil Muslim” email, but this morning I received two copies of an email purporting to be from a “Black American male” who is “not a Republican” and is just altruistically writing because he worries that America may “make the biggest mistake our nation has ever witnessed since Bush” by electing Barack Obama.

Clever tactic, huh? Make a backhanded criticism of Bush, and people will believe that you really are just a concerned, non-partisan American.

It’s interesting that this comes out just two days after Obama made a well-received speech on race that threatened to torpedo the last GOP gambit, to tar Obama by association with some of his pastor’s more incendiary (but factually correct) sermons.

Even more telling is the giant-font caption under a picture of a stern-faced Obama: This Is What Our Children Are Worshipping. Not “this is who our children are worshipping”; “this is what our children are worshipping.” Somehow I don’t think your average “Black American male” is going to try to dehumanize another black man while inciting fear in his intended white reader - at least none to the left of Clarence Thomas. The supposedly revelatory links from Newsmax and Fox News don’t help legitimize the writer, either.

When our son was helping me to distribute flyers about the date and time of the Democratic caucus throughout our neighborhood back in January, he asked why I was including everyone in the canvass: “What if some of them are stupid people?”

Well, stupid people get to participate too, and they may be fooled by tripe such as this. But I don’t believe people are as stupid - or blind - as they were in 2000 or 2004, and I have to trust that enough of us will see right through this right-wing garbage to get this country back on course.

First and foremost, people have to understand/realize that all three people wanting to be our next President, lie and tell people what they want to hear. I listened to Obama’s speech, and he did, IMO, give a speech that was honest, truthful, and right to the point about problems between different races/religion/beliefs, etc.

I have also listened to speeches from HRC, and McCain. Neither one of the latter has really mentioned any change. People call Obama an empty suit. OK, McCain suit is filled full of manure, and Clinton’s pants suit is filled with the same as McCain’s.

But looking at facts, McCain is how old, and refuses to release his tax returns, Clinton is the same on tax returns, plus riding on hubbys time in offfice. Obama has released his tax returns, why haven’t the other two done so?

Then Obama’s preacher made some bad statements. That is true. But how about the white, GOP preachers making the (almost) same statements? That isn’t being mentioned, and I would like to know why it isn’t. Real simple, their white, and belong to the GOP.

Yes, there are stupid people out there, always has been, and always will be. And why is that? Because a lot of people think that poor people need welfare, instead of pushing those people to get a education, find a job, and better themselves. No, it’s not easy to escape poverty, and it doesn’t help when people say it can’t be done. IT CAN BE DONE. Those naysayers need to stop and think, and then help the poverty people to work to help themselves, instead of giving them more welfare.

Obama’s speech was very close to saying that, and Bill Cosby comes right out and says it to the black community. That should also apply to the poor white community. But no, the bleeding heart liberals refuse to acknowledge the fact that you can over climb the
BS about no chance, how hard it is, etc, etc. YES it is hard to climb the obstacles, but one hell of a lot of people have done it, and more can do it, if they are told/helped to do so. And that doesn’t mean more welfare to help people that are happy drawing welfare checks each month.

Allen, too often the stupid (uninformed) people are not in poverty - they are willfully ignorant, getting all their news from Fox or watching nothing on teevee more informative than American Idol. They are a far greater danger to our democracy than those in poverty.

But our education system does have some work to do: by teaching to the NCLB tests and not teaching anything in context, without imparting any critical thinking skills, we’ll get more people who absorb everything they see and hear without question, and we’ll get more Bushes and McCains down the road.
