The maple leaf rises. From our international banker this morning:
Jobs, jobs, jobs. It has been heartening to follow the employment growth in Canada and Australia over the past few years. If the US overly deteriorates maybe there is still some where we can go. Canada created 46,400 jobs in January after a loss of 2900 positions in December… The data blew the socks off the projected gain of 10,000. Note: a 46,000 gain in Canada is equivalent to a gain of over 400,000 in the US. Canadian housing starts also were well above expectations, reaching around 223,000 in January after 187,000 in December. The forecast called for 210,000.
[emphasis added.]
Meanwhile, their southern neighbors continue heading south:

How low can it go before January 2009, do you think?
