Just back from the John Edwards meeting - we almost overflowed the Round Table conference room, and many of those that showed up were precinct captains.

The most important fact to come out at the meeting: the delegate count between Obama, Clinton and Edwards in incredibly close: 30, 28, 21. A candidate needs 2,025 delegates to win the nomination at the August convention. No matter how much the media is trying to ignore him, Edwards is still very much in this race, and we need to keep him there.

We didn’t waste time talking about issues (amazing, because we are, after all, Democrats); this meeting was about organizing and getting out the vote for the February 9th caucus. If you are not current on Washington’s ever-changing primary/caucus system, the upshot is that for Democrats, the February 19th primary means nothing. No delegates will be allocated through the primary - all of the delegates will be allocated at the February 9th caucus. (Find your precinct number here and your caucus site here.)

If you want to get involved in any way, doing walk-and-knock in your neighborhood, calling democrats in your district, or just to get pointers on how to talk Edwards up to your friends and family, please call Jake Lawlor: 971-533-7218 or email Jake at WeLikeEdwards@comcast.net.

The next big task is to get Edwards some much-needed money. There is a big online fundraiser this Friday, and the goal is $7 million. This push will hopefully payoff twice - raising funds and, if successful, getting the media to at least mention the Edwards campaign in a positive light. So, though I know its hard these days (I had to take a 10% paycut this past year, so I know how hard it can be), if you can at all afford to give, now is the time. Since Edwards has sworn off PAC and corporate money and has agreed to federal financing limits, every dollar you give will be matched 100%.

There will be meetings of Clark County Edwards supporters each of the next 3 Wednesdays at 6pm at Round Table Pizza, 5016 N.E. Thurston Way (near the mall). See you there?
