Give a cat a home

Good things are happening at the Humane Society for Southwest Washington:

Southwest Washington successfully Raised the Roof at our 2007 Dinner & Auction Saturday, October 20th at the Hilton Vancouver Washington. The auction raised more than $1.27 million exceeding a $1 million endowment challenge to satisfy an anonymous pledge of $2 million towards the funding of our new home. In total, over $3.27 million was pledged by compassionate friends of the Humane Society of Southwest Washington!

The funds will be used to build a desperately needed new facility on SE 192nd Avenue. In the editorial section of The Columbian today comes these words of wisdom:

Adopt a pet

The picture on my refrigerator is dated Dec. 16, 2004. It is a 7-year-old calico cat that lost its family. The next day I went to the humane society and his yellow eyes said, “Please take me home.” It’s been three years since we became best friends. He doesn’t have to be walked or washed. He is my indoor buddy. Make your day - adopt a pet. You will be blessed.

Here are two of my beasts that are both bundles of joy, deaf Bongo and “evergreen” Ernie.

  1. This is excellent news indeed, and it is important to note that both the City of Vancouver and the Port of Vancouver came together on some land swaps that were vital for making this one happen.

There are a lot of people in the Community who stepped up to the plate, and donated this money for a very worth cause. I’m certainly looking forward to next year when the new facility should open.

    Well done, Vancouver!
