If you were the only paper in a city of 160,000 plus people wouldn’t you try to give a fair and balanced view of the coming elections? The answer would probably be yes if you looked into the voting records of the incumbents already in office. The Columbian didn’t. Everyone currently running has voted yes on every increase in taxes for you the citizen/voter since getting into office in 2004. There is no tax increase they didn’t like.
If you vote them back into office what you can expect is more of the same only worse. Now they have the authority to tax you without putting it on a ballot for your approval. The big one in 2008 will be the car tax. The Columbian says $20 but if you read the law the amount can be up to $100 plus the $35 dollars the state receives.
In addition to that the city council has the authority to add another 9/10 of a cent on the sales tax. If the state or county adds another 9/10 the sales tax will be a whopping 10%.
You too can become a part of the populace that is “disenfranchised from city government” by voting for a change. We need that change now before we are all taxed out of homes. You the voter will not have another chance to effect change until 2009 and by that time it might be too late as the city still has Portland envy and wants you to pay for it.
Why am I running? To stop property giveaways to special interest while our taxes go up to pay for their generosity. Go to the PDC reports at www.pdc.wa.gov/ do a search by candidate and you will have a list of who will benefit in the coming four years if they are reelected. They haven’t excused themselves from voting in the past when receiving campaign contributions so why would they ever start.
My vote at the city council will be for you the taxpayer, resident homeowner, the disenfranchised ‘˜tired of bad government citizen’. You and I both deserve better.
Together we can make it happen. I strongly support Pat Campbell. He and I both have strong family values and understand the need for change for families living in Vancouver. The Columbian doesn’t decide who you vote for, you do!
