This is Baird's Marie Antoinette plan, "Let them buy coverage." The ridiculousness of the suggestion seems lost on him. It doesn't even occur to him that is the system we have now. (Oh, yeah, but we're going to fix that! The government will subsidize the insurance industry so your premiums are more affordable!)

Personally, I can think of many different things I would like the government to do with my money then feed the ravenous greed industry that is largely responsible for the problem.

This stuff doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out. The ONLY thing standing between us and free health care for all Americans are a lot of overpaid lobbyists who are representing a lot of overpaid insurance companies.

Extend medicare to all Americans. Throw a bone to what's left of the health care insurance companies by letting them write medigap policies like they do now for seniors.

Make it easier for health care providers to get paid by medicare. Put incentives and changes into the system that will promote preventive care and efficiency of care delivery. Repeal the Bush tax cuts for the upper class. End the Iraq occupation.

What is so difficult? There will be plenty of money and the system will run much more efficiently.

The only thing in the way is pure greed. Pure and simple.

This concept about everyone paying for their own policies is ridiculous because that is what we already have and the system is crap. And subsidizing the people that cannot afford a policy with tax credits is hogwash because lots of the people that cannot afford to buy their own policy PAY NO TAXES. And if the credits are to be refundable tax credits that is essentially the government paying out like Medicare except the for profit insurance agencies get a cut.

The system needs to be revised without the insurance companies continuing to game the system.

Countries in blue have some type of universal health care. Countries in green are currently attempting to implement some type of universal health care. Orange countries have universal health coverage provided by United States war funding. Source.

This sounds a lot like Rep. Baird's misguided proposed legislation. Maybe they are working together on this and the triangulation of Iraq policy?

If I'm right, Baird is going to be a member of the Hillary administration when the dust settles.
