Warren Buffett lunch sells for record $650,100

Folks, this is more sicko than Sicko.  Do you know how many more mouths than the one lunch that money could really feed?  That's 601,944 double cheeseburgers (including WA State sales tax).  That's almost one and a half double cheeseburgers for every man, woman and child in Clark County!  That's approximately the usable beef alone from 240 cows, not to mention the other ingredients.

Money mouth

But this is also true:

A year ago, Buffett pledged most of his fortune to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and four family charities. Forbes magazine in March estimated his net worth at $52 billion.

As long as Warren passes the money along to Bill and Melinda (et al) and they are wise in their use of the funds for charitable purposes, I applaud them all.

Correction:  It does mention in the underlying article these monies are, in fact, going to charity.  My bad for missing that.  This post is only meant to point out how decadent it appears to pay so much for a lunch.  Appearances can be deceiving.

  1. As explained in the article you lambast, it’s for a charity, the Glide Foundation, which helps the homeless in SF.

  2. You are quite right. Again, I applaud the philanthropy. My intention was to point out how reading the headline could lead one to the decadent conclusion that Buffett was actually receiving these monies.

And I missed that charitable reference in the article.

    I admire Warren Buffett immensely.
