Free Internet Radio on the Ropes

I listen to an absurd amount of streaming internet radio, both at work and home. I plan on doing something about this.
From Alterati:

Internet Radio Gutted, Vultures Gather Since you probably can’t surf porn in the office, I assume if you’re at the office then you’re using the net to read alterati and listen to internet radio while you’re working on spreadsheets and shit. However, starting in the middle of next month, an absurdly intolerant and just fucking unwieldy law goes into effect charging as much as 1200% royalties on tracks played over internet radio, and requiring the last 17 months of radio play to be backpaid to a couple of lawyers.. (Seriously? How are they planning to track this? How are they going to enforce it?) This punishes only those abiding by the law, and that means the internet remains a place of illegitimate broadcasts by folks somehow knowingly skirting a national law in a post-nationalist cyberspace that politicians still don’t quite know what to make of… and those legitimate, non-profit stations out there that are streaming music online will be subject to controls preventing them from acquiring too large an audience, lest they also be subject to a fine. This is lunacy, ineffective legislation, and a nightmare all around. It will have a muffling effect on internet radio, and a number of stations online are joining in protest, to illustrate what this means. Hence, no internet radio for you, as today is a day of internet radio silence, and the No Other Radio show will only be broadcast locally as a result.

There is still something you can do about it.

  1. It’s easy to understand why this is happening. Before the internet, TV and newspapers (rags) was the only way to receive the news.

By starting to control part of the internet, soon they will try and control some more, and then more, until it’s fully controlled.

The sheeple in this country are like mushrooms, kept in the dark and fed manure. It doesn’t matter which party is in control, they want to make sure we stay uninformed. Remember the saying, “information is power?”

The present administration is sure doing it’s best to make sure we stay in the dark. They don’t, in their little minds, have to obey any oversight rules from Congress. WHY?

The answer is simple, if the misdeeds done by them ever come to light, they would go to prison for a long time. So by controlling the information, which the internet has plenty of, the sheeple will never know what is going on.

This is just the first (I think) effort to control the flow of information to us. Doesn’t matter if it’s radio, music downloading, news, etc. They want control.
