Diane Atkin, a tireless local activist on Palestine-Israel issues, sent me (through the Vancouver for Peace listserv) this posting to a blog that I found very interesting. The highlights are below but to really get the drift of this post you should read the whole article (the youtube links are cool too!):
I often hear from people asking me, “What should we do about all this? How can we stop Bush?”
(Step #1) I would first say that we must move beyond blaming Bush.
Step #2 is to openly acknowledge that as a nation, and we as citizens, benefit from this U.S. military and economic empire.
Step #3 is to recognize that we are addicted to war and to violence.
Step # 4 We have to begin to change how we think about our country. We have to learn to understand what oligarchy means.
Step #5 Forget the “every man for himself” mythology.
Step # 6 What about my job? Another smothering myth in America is success.
Step #7 Learn to work well with others.
Step # 8 It’s the money.
Step # 9 Learn to read again.
Step #10 Learn to trust again and have fun.
These are just a few of my ideas. I’d like to ask you if you could send me your ideas about what we should do to get out from behind the eight-ball. Send me your ideas and I will post some of them on my blog. By sharing our thoughts with one another just maybe we can speed up the needed changes. Write me at globalnet@mindspring.com
