How Rs play and Ds lose

RoveHartmann nails down the Rovian strategy for the Rs to keep control of the Presidency in ‘08.

1. Shift “ownership” of the downside of the “war” and occupation of Iraq to the Democrats.

2. Begin to wind down American involvement in the occupation of Iraq no later than mid-2008.

3. “Claim victory and get out” of direct combat in Iraq by the early fall of 2008.

4. Win big in the 2008 elections by having “won” a “war.”

Step one was just accomplished last week:

And now Democrats think they’ll be able to claim the high ground, but they just lost it all. Even as Harry Reid declared on the day Bush accepted his new Iraq funding that, “Democrats will continue to insist that this administration accept responsibility for its failed conduct of this war…” the Republican media machine was shoving that responsibility down the throats of the Democrats.

The reason the Bush crime family is sending every troop they can get over there now is to take control of the streets and try to minimize the fighting and claim “victory” next year. If they then pull the troops back next year and keep them out of harms way, it will look like a victory temporarily.

Once the election is won by them, of course, then the occupation resumes as planned for the next 30 years or so.

It’s a good plan. It will probably succeed. Reminds me of how the price of gas seems to trend downward during the election season and then makes up for the price slide after the election. Nothing like cheap gas or “winning a war” to help get voters on your side.

Here is the entire article by Thom. Thank you Thom for thinking this through.

Will the Ds learn how to play poker or chess? Or are they too busy playing politics and checkers.
