PBS Round-Files Documentary About Moderate Islam

What does publicly funded, “liberally biased” PBS do when a documentary about Muslims doesn’t fit the current narrative?

Why, they ban it, of course:

PBS has blocked the broadcast of Islam vs. Islamists: Voices from the Muslim Center. This new documentary — funded with a $675,000 Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) grant — contrasts the ubiquitous bearded, burka-covered Muslim radicals with others seldom seen: men and women who wear Western attire, shave daily, show their female faces, and prosper without slaughtering “infidels.”

While moderate Muslims may appear elsewhere on PBS, Uncle Sam’s TV channel declines to air this compelling, even-handed, and surprisingly tame film that explores the struggle between modern Muslims and their backward brethren. Produced by Canadian filmmaker Martyn Burke and the Center for Security Policy’s (CSP) Alex Alexiev and Frank Gaffney, Islam vs. Islamists is no fire-breathing, Islamophobic screed. While it sympathizes with mellow Muslims targeted by their hotheaded co-religionists, it simply lets individual Muslims speak for themselves, with limited commentary — none of it inflammatory.

  1. They better make the DVD available for people who might want to see it.

  2. As much as I want to see it, I wouldn’t want to encourage their censorship by giving them money for it. Hopefully It will appear in one of the better pirate sources and will be available for download.

Downloading television programs is killing big media, and it’s fun.

  3. STOP THE PARANOIA - Facts: PBS cannot block any program because PBS is a membership organization that distributes about one third of the programs that any local public station broadcasts.
If an independent producer wants to have a show broadcast and PBS will not send it out on its dime, the producer can simply buy an hour of satellite time (a right to do because it is publicly owned) and send it to stations. Each public station, radio or TV, makes the decision on what it will air in its community regardless of PBS feeds.
