Fact is Kucinich is right (as usual, see below). Bush don’t need no damn “authorization” to wage war and everyone knows it including Hillary and Byrd. Heck, even if he did, Bush has made it very clear he is going to do any damn thing he wants; the law, the constitution, Congress and the will of the people are irrelevant. He only listens to Dick, Karl and God (or the little voice in his head).
But does that stop Hillary and Byrd from playing politics by introducing a meaningless bill? Nope, Hillary wants to look like she is against the illegal occupation of Iraq without doing anything that will end the conflict. This is classic Clinton triangulation. Didn’t we have enough of this lack of any real guiding principles with Bill? The reason Bush has been able to hoodwink so many people to vote for him has been that people know pretty much who he is and what he stands for. Aren’t the Dems ready for such a leader or are they going to keep playing politics while people perish? What ineffective activity will the Democratic Congress think up next?
Kucinich: You Cannot Deauthorize a War While Funding It
WASHINGTON, May 3 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — In response to reports
that Senator Hillary Clinton plans to support a bill deauthorizing the Iraq
War on October 11th, Congressman Dennis Kucinich said:
“Now that Senator Clinton supports deauthorization, will she support
defunding the war? When someone votes to fund the war 100 percent of the
time and then says she supports deauthorization, it looks like a gimmick.
Last week she voted to fund the war again. Every time she votes to fund the
war she reauthorizes it. The true test of her commitment to ending the war
is whether she’ll vote to stop funding it. Congress will soon be faced with
yet another decision on whether or not to fund the war. Let’s see how
Senator Clinton votes, to see if she is to be believed.”
Congressman Dennis Kucinich opposed the war from the start and has
voted 100 percent of the time against funding it. When President Bush
vetoed the recent funding bill, Kucinich was the only member of the House
to vote Present. He did so because he objected to the Congressional
Democrats’ position and to Bush’s position. Kucinich has a plan to end the
war: HR 1234.
