Democracy for Vancouver

This resolution below was passed by the Washington State Democratic Central Committee at its quarterly meeting on April 28, 2007. Thank you to everyone that made this happen and those of you who voted in favor of this resolution.

This is the most important part:

40 WHEREAS, failure to pursue impeachment in this extraordinarily patent instance of
41 serial violations of the constitution, treaties, and statutes will only serve to further
42 weaken the carefully constructed checks and balances provided in our form of
43 government and will leave future administrations with the expectation that they will
44 not incur any penalties no matter what they do; and
45
46 WHEREAS, failure to exercise congressional authority over presidential abuse of
47 power would be the death knell of our democracy;

Please let Pelosi know that impeachment is “on the table”. You can reach her here along with your other elected representatives.

A massive response from everyone voicing support for impeachment will push the electeds to do this. When you call or email, you might want to refer to this resolution. Democrats in Washington state have spoken.

3 for George Bush and Dick Cheney

5 WHEREAS, there are already known and admitted illegal and impeachable actions
6 on the part of George W. Bush, some examples being, in broad outline:
7
8 a) unlawful wire-tapping of American citizens,
9 b) deliberate manipulation of intelligence reports for the purpose of starting a
10 war,
11 c) deliberate violations of international treaties pertaining to acts of war,
12 d) deliberate violations of international treaties pertaining to prisoners of war,
13 e) deliberate violations of constitutional rights provided in the Bill of Rights;
14
15 and
16
17 WHEREAS, the current administration under the control of George W. Bush has
18 promulgated, promoted, and persisted in practices designed to increase and
19 consolidate the power of the president in contravention of the constitutional limits
20 placed upon that power; and
21
22 WHEREAS, George W. Bush must be held accountable for the unconstitutional
23 actions he has already committed and prevented from doing further damage to our
24 constitutional democracy; and
25
26 WHEREAS, only the members of the United States House of Representatives have
27 the power, authority, and responsibility to bring the president to trial for his actions;
28 and
29
30 WHEREAS, impeachment is the only constitutional remedy for holding the
31 president accountable; and
32
33 WHEREAS, George W. Bush may be the most egregious example of having
34 committed massive numbers of impeachable offenses in all the history of our nation;
35 and
36
37 WHEREAS, there is no higher duty than to protect, defend, and preserve our
38 constitution; and

40 WHEREAS, failure to pursue impeachment in this extraordinarily patent instance of

49 BE IT RESOLVED THAT, we respectfully request that the House of Representatives
50 start the process of investigation for the purpose of determining the articles of
51 impeachment that are justified by the acts of George W. Bush in his capacity as
52 President of the United States and also as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces;
53 and

55 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT, the same process be instituted in regard to
56 Vice President Richard Cheney.
