Are the Dems setting themselves up for failure?

So we have these bills in Congress for withdrawing troops from Iraq. Bush is going to veto them. At some point (I’ve read this will be in June), the funds start running out for the troops. The Bush people are going to be SCREAMING “See, the Dems don’t support the troops. They are starving the troops”.

Then what are the Dems going to do? Provide the funding. By capitulating, what have they accomplished besides making themselves look weak and ineffective?

They can say they tried and failed. Go for it! And maybe, just maybe the Dems will also realize they have no real choice but to initiate impeachment proceedings or they will have failed to try! Please keep trying! Show some backbone!

That’s the first thing I thought of when the post-election honeymoon was over.
It’s all about framing, public perception - thanks to our wonderful corporatist media.
Bush supports the troops, except when he doesn’t - and then it’s never reported by these jackals.
They will always parrot the company line.

Ah, but they have already voted to supply the funding. If Bush vetoes the bill he’s going to have to explain why he’s rejected the funding.
