Listened to Rep. Baird this morning on Hartmann about why the No Iran War provision was stripped from the legislation that the House is working on for withdrawal of our troops from Iraq. In the same breath, Rep. Baird said that the legislation has a fixed withdrawal date of August ‘08 (just in time to capture the Democratic vote for the Presidency), there are benchmarks that must be met (oh, I’m impressed), Bush has already stated he is going to veto the legislation (of course), and that the legislation will probably not get through the Senate in its current form (the Senate will NEVER have 60 votes for anything as long as Bush is Resident).
It then occurred to me why are they bothering with this at all? If the legislation is already dead by Bush veto, they cannot override a veto and will never get 60 votes in the Senate on any legislation whatsoever (as proven by the non-binding resolution defeat), why bother with it at all? Are they just trying to convince us “people” that they are actually trying to accomplish something knowing full well that they are not accomplishing anything at all? This is the only conclusion that I can find. Seems to me the people are not getting their money’s worth from Congress (as usual).
I think our tax dollars would be better spent if Congress just forgets about trying to pass ANY legislation (since Bush will veto it anyway) and just investigate the Bush Administration until Bush and Company leave office. That would be money well spent.
I am going to go puke now…
