Our town’s only daily rag has often been criticized for selectively disabling reader comments on most stories (other than opinion and letters to the editor). Looking at their recently revamped discussion forum, it’s small wonder; the playground they’ve moved open discourse to (read:marginalized) has become a veritable monkey-poo flinging fest, at times resembling a good ol’ Clarktuckey meth and cheap malt-liquor-fueled CB radio war:

Grant was the typical alcoholic but a great military tactician and able to get the most from his chosen leaders under him, do as you’re told-produce or get the hell out of his sight. He had no talent for the finer art of political intrigue.

Nixon was a magnificent political tactician, survivor and manipulator, interpersonal skills of a Kligon-Vulcan mating. He deserved his wife.
