This from today’s Columbian:
Baird chosen as one of 40 Democratic House whips
Rep. Brian Baird of Vancouver has been chosen by House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn to serve as one of 40 Democratic House whips in the 110th Congress. As an assistant whip, Baird will help Clyburn round up support for the Democratic agenda and Democrat-sponsored legislation.
“This is an historic time for our country, and I’m excited about my role in the new majority to help bring change to the House and advance legislation that meets the needs of working families,” Baird said in a statement.
“A good whip knows the needs of the public, understands the issues at hand, and has a strong relationship with his or her colleagues,” Clyburn said.
The South Carolina congressman said he chose Baird for his team because of Baird’s leadership on budget and fiscal responsibility issues and his dedication to targeting tax cuts to working families and providing access to affordable health care.
