The real reason the Bush administration won’t back down on Guantanamo.


This article fits what I have heard from other sources. One of the main goals of this administration, especially of Cheney, is to increase the power of the Presidency.

Here is the key quote: “The endgame in the war on terror isn’t holding the line against terrorists. It’s holding the line on hard-fought claims to absolutely limitless presidential authority.” Guests on KBOO have been talking about the books they have written on this for quite a while.

  1. The so-called War On Terror has little to do with stopping terrorism.
    One of the primary goals of it is to preserve a certain level of terrorism in order to keep popular democratic movements in check so that they don’t challenge corporate hegemony or try to liberate resources for people in that country or for them to try to organize labor.
    The game in Iraq is putting US soldiers in the crossfire of a war of ethnic and sectarian supremacist forces; betting that the side most friendly to corporate colonization will win out.
    Bush is also trying to buy time (with the lives of US soldiers) so that it will become the next administration’s problem, which will most likely be of the Democratic party.
