Dear friend of United for Peace and Justice,
As of today, more than 2,990 U.S. troops have died in Iraq.
By the time you read this, the death toll may have reached 3,000. We must bear witness to this tragic milestone, even though many people are already beginning their celebrations of the new year. And when we do take action on this occasion, we must remind others that hundreds of thousands of Iraqi children, women and men have also died in this outrageous war and occupation. Our call to end this war and to bring all the troops home now must be heard in every corner of the country! The killing must stop.
Here are some things you can do:
Make a public statement on the 3,000th U.S. death with a vigil or other public event in your community. Under the slogan, “Not One More Death, Not One More Dollar,” the American Friends Service Committee, which sits on UFPJ’s National Steering Committee, is coordinating events all around the country the day after the 3,000th death occurs. If you cannot organize something that quickly, then do your activity anytime in the next several days — the message will still be relevant. More than 150 events have already been listed and they welcome more listings. Click here for resources and event ideas.
