Sorry I’ve been so distracted….
…I’m a little overjoyed at this point. Y’know what I mean?
I can’t believe things turned out the way they did. It seems like the last six years have one depressing revelation after another. The last two were especially f**king bleak. We saw the dissolution of nearly everything that made America great. The death of Habeas Corpus and the utter indifference towards it by the Generican people seemed to sound the death-knell for Democracy and individual freedom in my eyes.
But now, despite widespread indy-grapevine reports of voter tampering, harassment and the apparent support of the neocon agenda on the part of the mainstream corporate media, the Democrats have won the Senate, House and many Governorships.
Our spoiled, middle-aged fratboy and the oily businessmen who pull his strings now have something that they rarely encounter - accountability.
But that says maybe. We’ll have to see what the Dems are capable of pulling off and how much they’re willing to stand up to the insanity of this state/corporate juggernaut that’s bearing down on apocalypse. But it seems like every aspect of the post-911 consensus reality is being questioned. Rummy’s gone to nearly unanimous approval. Bolton’s set to get a rabies shot and perhaps put down. Really - making that man ambassador to the UN is like making Adolf Eichmann a diplomat to Israel. But now everyone seems to see that. I saw a MSNBC (owned by General Electric) poll that had 87% (as of Friday) think that Bush should be impeached.

Listen to that, madam speaker. Despite what you said on 60 Minutes, listen to the voice of the people. You have a mandate. Not a fake, 2% mandate like Georgie in ‘04, but a resounding ass-wuppin’ of the neocon right. We wouldn’t have voted you guys in if we didn’t think you’re capable of it.
But the dynamic with regards to the media I’ve noticed over the years is that when something happens that is off the script, doesn’t match the conventional narrative or is otherwise out-of-the-blue, the media stops and does what some of them were actually trained to do - report. We saw some of it during the early days of Katrina. We saw a lot of it in the days just after 9-11; we actually heard discussion on the networks about CIA Blowback, Bin Laden’s US intelligence ties and even some sober discussion of the dreaded ‘why they hate us’ question. And after a couple of weeks, inconvenient facts get swept under a rug and the red, white and blue blinders go back on us all. With Katrina, it was the utter uselessness of the government’s response and the ugly issues of race and class. With 9-11 it became a gigantic infomercial for the military industrial complex versus brown people who want us all dead. Democracy? You’re soaking in it! Rinse, repeat.
So it’s not over yet, folks.
This isn’t the end of Return of the Jedi.
Dick Vader’s still alive…
…still has his arm up Georgie-boy’s backside and working his head like a puppet. Although he was sweet in that press conference with Pelosi, you know that that conciliatory tone won’t last. You don’t cross a person with narcissistic personality disorder without there being hell to pay. People with NPD are never wrong, and when they inevitably are proven wrong, they make everyone around them miserable. Who knows what evil lurks in that black little heart? Not the shadow. Georgie’s probably severed ties with all aspects of his psyche years ago, so it’s doubtful even he knows.
Note the panicky, chicken little reports from Blair over at Airstrip One. Note that gasoline prices jumped back up right after Nov. 7. We still are losing our men and women at a fearsome rate in Iraq.
So we still have a fight ahead of us.
It’s not over by a long shot, but our Democracy still works.
At least we have a fighting chance of taking our country back.
